Birgit Laubach    Board member

Dr. Birgit Laubach is a practising lawyer. From 2002 to 2013 she was CEO of the Heinrich Böll Foundation, Berlin. As of 1990 she headed the legal staff of the Green Party parliamentary group in the German Bundestag.

In this function she authored numerous legislative initiatives. In 1994 she also became deputy chief whip of the Green Party parliamentary group.

Previously she worked within the Green Party parliamentary group on non-discrimination issues and in 1986, she set-up the Women and Equality Unit for the state government of Hessen.

Birgit Laubach served as an expert to constitutional reform commissions of the states of Thüringen and Lower Saxony and the commission reviewing the German constitution in view of the country’s unification in 1990. She is a regular contributor to legal and other periodicals and holds a PhD in law from the University of Bielefeld.

Tobias Flessenkemper  Board member

Tobias Flessenkemper is a senior policy and strategy advisor and analyst with an extensive experience in EU foreign and security missions in Skopje and Sarajevo until 2012.

Previously he worked for the German Foreign Office, OSCE, UNICEF and the European Commission on development, good governance and European integration issues.

From 1996 to 2001, he was Secretary General of the European Youth Forum and of the Young European Federalists advocating for the participation of young people in EU and global affairs. In his various functions he served on several European Community and intergovernmental bodies.

Mr Flessenkemper has a significant record of policy work, scholarship and invited presentations. He graduated as Magister Artium (M.A) in political science from the University of Cologne and holds a European Master in International Humanitarian Assistance from the University of Bochum.

Michaela Eckart Project manager

Michaela Eckart holds a university degree in Islamic Studies and International Law. Over the past five years, she has been working in the field of gender, international constitutional law and human rights in the MENA region.

She has been living and worked extensively in the Middle East in her previous positions and is familiar with operating in culturally diverse environments. Michaela Eckart was employed in the MENA programme of the Danish Institute for Human Rights in 2015/16 and managed the gender projects in the Goethe-Institut Cairo in 2017/18. Recently, she contributed to a book publication on constitutional change in MENA.

Michaela Eckart managed the GIZ-funded project “A strategy for women participation in peace processes in Nineveh” with elbarlament e.V. and is currently responsible for the management of the GIZ project ‘’Women talking peace – Women leading peace talks’’, which will be implemented until January 2022 in Iraq.

Michaela has very good Arabic skills.
